“The real challenge isn't building the software; it's building it efficiently and intelligently, so we can focus on solving the next complex problem.”

Agastya Bhadresha, 29, is the co-founder and CTO of a burgeoning custom software agency based in Bengaluru, India. Holding a BTech in Computer Science from a reputable institution, he co-founded the company five years ago with a vision to build a lean, agile development shop. His current income reflects his dual role as a founder and technical leader, with a substantial base salary augmented by founder's draws. Agastya lives at home with his parents and younger sister, a common arrangement in Bengaluru that allows him to save aggressively and funnel capital back into the business. His professional life is characterized by a relentless pursuit of technical clarity and speed, driven by a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. He is deeply invested in optimizing his team's workflow, particularly concerning the integration of AI coding assistants. He meticulously reviews prompts used for generating code explanations, test cases, and client-facing summaries, recognizing the leverage these tools provide. His team's current reliance on free versions of tools like ChatGPT, supplemented by internal documentation and shared prompt examples, is a testament to his resourcefulness and cost-consciousness. This setup, while effective, necessitates his constant oversight to ensure consistency and quality. Recently, Agastya made a conscious decision to allocate dedicated time each week to research and experiment with emerging developer tooling, particularly AI-powered solutions, believing it's crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. He's also been exploring more robust methods for managing their internal knowledge base and prompt library, moving beyond simple copy-pasting into project notes, as the team scales. His openness to new technologies is balanced by a strong sense of conscientiousness, ensuring that any new tool or process is rigorously vetted for its practical application and impact on project delivery. He’s not driven by status but by the satisfaction of building a robust, efficient, and respected engineering firm.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Agastya's typical weekday begins around 7:30 AM with a quick check of urgent emails and project status updates. After a brief breakfast and helping his mother with a small chore, he heads to the office, often cycling. His mornings are packed with team stand-ups, code reviews, and client calls. He dedicates a block of time around lunchtime to reviewing AI-generated code explanations or test cases, refining prompts, and updating internal documentation. Afternoons involve architectural discussions, strategic planning with Priya, and troubleshooting any critical issues. He usually leaves the office by 7:30 PM, heading home for dinner, after which he might spend an hour or two reading tech articles or experimenting with a new tool before winding down.

Lifestyle

Agastya lives a relatively frugal life despite his income, prioritizing reinvestment in his company and saving for future expansion. He shares a comfortable, but not extravagant, home in Bengaluru with his parents and younger sister, contributing to household expenses. His routine is disciplined, centered around work, with evenings often spent catching up on industry blogs or experimenting with new developer tools. Social life is limited to occasional meetups with college friends or industry peers. He cycles to work when possible, valuing efficiency and a small nod to environmental consciousness, and his diet is generally healthy, though he admits to relying on quick meals during intense project phases.

Work life

As CTO of an 18-person custom software agency, Agastya's days are a constant juggle between strategic oversight and hands-on problem-solving. He's deeply involved in reviewing code quality, refining prompt engineering for AI tools used by his team, and ensuring technical documentation is clear and concise for clients. The team's reliance on free AI tools and internal knowledge bases means Agastya spends significant time curating and sharing effective prompt templates. He faces pressure to deliver high-quality software quickly and cost-effectively, balancing client demands with team capacity and the need to stay ahead of technological advancements.

Relationships

Agastya maintains a close relationship with his parents, who are proud of his entrepreneurial success. His younger sister is his confidante for non-work-related matters. His co-founder, Priya, is his primary professional sounding board and strategic partner. He has a small circle of close friends from his university days, a few of whom are also in tech, providing a support network for discussing industry challenges.

How they decide

Questions & answers

Agastya Bhadresha’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What do you use today instead of Prompt Engine (https://promptengine.cc/) (a competitor, a spreadsheet, doing it by hand)? Compared with that, what would make Prompt Engine better or worse for you, and what would keep you on your current option? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

Currently, my team and I rely on free ChatGPT accounts and our internal documentation to create prompts for code explanations and client summaries. We copy and paste examples into project notes. Prompt Engine's promise of generating perfect prompts in seconds and consistently high-quality outputs is appealing, especially the optimization feature. It could be better if it integrates seamlessly with our current workflow. What might make it worse is if it requires a steep learning curve for the team or if the results aren't as consistent as claimed across different AI models. The main thing that would keep us on our current system is cost, as we're very cost-conscious. I'd be willing to pay up to $20 per month.
