“Every pixel, every frame, it all has to work together to tell a clear story. That's where the real satisfaction lies.”

Rameshwar Varma, 33, is a dedicated Brand and Motion Designer based in Pune, India, working within a compact, five-person studio that specializes in supporting app startups. His journey into design began with a BFA in Visual Communication, where he developed a strong foundation in aesthetics and theory. He found his niche in the fast-paced world of startup branding, drawn to the challenge of creating compelling visual narratives for new products. For the past seven years, he's honed his skills, becoming proficient in industry-standard tools like Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. His role involves not just creating initial graphics but also meticulously adapting them across various formats and sizes for web and social media, a task that demands both creativity and technical precision. He's particularly adept at developing animated explainers and ad creatives that distill complex app functionalities into easily digestible visuals. Rameshwar's current focus is on a major product launch for a fintech startup, where he's responsible for their entire visual identity, from logo animation to a series of explainer videos. This project requires him to work closely with the client, ensuring their brand message is consistently communicated and building a deep sense of trust through his reliable output and proactive communication. He recently made a conscious decision to invest in a more powerful workstation, recognizing that faster rendering times directly translate to quicker iterations and happier clients, a trade-off he felt was essential for maintaining his studio's competitive edge and his own professional satisfaction. He lives with his wife, Priya, and their young daughter, Ananya, in a comfortable apartment in Pune. While his career is demanding, he consciously carves out time for family, viewing it as crucial for maintaining his well-being and creative energy. His income of ₹20-30 LPA allows for a comfortable lifestyle, but he remains focused on long-term financial planning, aiming for future investments in property and his daughter's education. He sees time as a valuable commodity, always seeking ways to optimize his workflow without compromising on the quality of his craft, driven by a deep-seated value for craftsmanship and efficiency.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Rameshwar's weekday begins around 7:00 AM with a quick cup of chai and helping his daughter get ready. After dropping her at preschool by 8:30 AM, he commutes to the studio, listening to a design podcast. His workday, from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, is a focused cycle of client brief analysis, asset creation in Illustrator, animation in After Effects, and team check-ins. He dedicates specific blocks to refining animations for an app launch campaign and creating social media graphics. Lunch is usually a quick affair at his desk. He leaves by 6:30 PM, picks up his daughter, and spends the evening with his family, often reviewing Ananya's drawings or discussing his day with Priya. He might spend an hour after dinner catching up on design blogs or practicing a new After Effects technique before retiring around 11:00 PM.

Questions & answers

Rameshwar Varma’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What do you use today instead of Isometic Studio (https://isometic.studio) (a competitor, a spreadsheet, doing it by hand)? Compared with that, what would make Isometic Studio better or worse for you, and what would keep you on your current option? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

Right now, I create isometric visuals by building shapes from scratch in Illustrator and then animating them in After Effects. It's a bit time-consuming, especially when I need to adapt assets for various sizes for web and social media. The idea of generating them faster with ready-made shapes or an AI agent is appealing. Being able to convert images directly to isometric shapes also sounds efficient. However, I'd need to see how the AI agent works and if the ready-made shapes are flexible enough for my startup clients' branding needs. My biggest concern is workflow integration; if it significantly disrupts my current process or requires a steep learning curve, it might not be worth it. For the features offered, I'd consider paying around $15 per month, but that's contingent on the tool actually saving me significant time.
