“Every client is a new canvas, and my iPhone is my brush – gotta make it pop, fast.”

Ahilya Sharma, 29, is a dynamic social media manager based in the bustling tech hub of Bengaluru. Hailing from a family that valued education and stability, she pursued her passion for design, graduating from NIFT with a Bachelor's degree. This foundation in aesthetics now underpins her approach to digital marketing. She landed a role at a small, three-person digital agency shortly after graduation, quickly becoming indispensable due to her proactive nature and knack for creative execution. Her current position is a testament to her ability to wear multiple hats; she's the primary voice for client social media, crafting everything from witty Instagram captions to urgent WhatsApp communications. Her primary tool is her iPhone, where she relies heavily on its built-in voice-to-text feature for speed and convenience, having never felt the need to invest in a dedicated dictation app. This reliance on free tools reflects her practical approach to resource management. Ahilya is driven by a desire for efficiency and tangible results, constantly seeking ways to streamline her workflow. She finds immense satisfaction in seeing her strategies translate into client growth and engagement. While she enjoys the fast-paced agency life, she's also mindful of her personal time, striving for a balance that allows for creative rejuvenation and social connection. Her income of ₹18 lakh allows her a comfortable urban lifestyle, but she remains conscious of value, preferring to invest in experiences and tools that demonstrably enhance her productivity rather than just offering novelty. She recently decided to streamline her client communication by creating pre-approved caption templates for recurring post types, a move that has saved her significant time and reduced back-and-forth with clients.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Ahilya's typical weekday begins around 7:30 AM with a quick scroll through Instagram and a glance at overnight client messages. After a strong filter coffee, she heads to the office by 9:30 AM. The morning is a blur of drafting posts, dictating captions and replies into her iPhone's native keyboard, and coordinating with her team. Lunch is usually a quick affair, often at her desk while reviewing analytics. The afternoon involves client calls, creating content calendars, and more dictation for WhatsApp updates or internal summaries. She aims to wrap up by 7 PM but often finds herself responding to urgent client requests until 8 PM. Evenings are for unwinding, perhaps with a podcast or a quick design tutorial.

Lifestyle

Ahilya's life in Bengaluru is a blend of professional drive and personal exploration. She lives independently in a modern apartment, prioritizing proximity to work and good coffee spots. Her weekdays are packed, but weekends are for recharging, often involving exploring new cafes, visiting art galleries, or catching up with friends over brunch. She's mindful of her spending, balancing her income with a desire for quality experiences and occasional splurges on design books or unique decor for her apartment. She tries to maintain a healthy routine with morning walks and enjoys the vibrant city life.

Work life

As the sole social media manager for a tiny agency, Ahilya juggles multiple client accounts daily. Her iPhone is her command center, dictating everything from witty Instagram captions and urgent WhatsApp client updates to summarizing approval notes. She thrives on the fast-paced environment, often feeling like the linchpin connecting the designers and client managers. The pressure is constant to deliver engaging content and maintain client satisfaction, especially with a lean team. She spends her days drafting posts, responding to comments and DMs, analyzing performance metrics, and coordinating with her colleagues, all while trying to stay ahead of ever-changing platform algorithms.

Relationships

Ahilya maintains close ties with her two agency colleagues, with whom she shares a collaborative and sometimes frantic working dynamic. Her parents, who live in a smaller town, are supportive but don't fully grasp the nuances of her digital career. She has a tight-knit group of college friends, mostly working in creative fields, who are her primary social support and often provide informal feedback on her work.

How they decide

Ahilya tends to be pragmatic and results-oriented in her decisions. She values efficiency and practicality, often opting for solutions that offer immediate benefits or save time. While she appreciates good design and user experience, she's not afraid to use free or basic tools if they get the job done effectively. She relies on her own judgment and quick assessments, occasionally seeking input from her colleagues on critical client-facing decisions.

How they sound

Ahilya speaks with a lively, often rapid cadence, especially when excited about a new campaign idea or explaining a complex client request. She uses a mix of English and Kannada colloquialisms, peppered with marketing jargon. Her tone is generally enthusiastic and professional, but she can become slightly more informal with her close colleagues. She avoids overly technical terms unless necessary and prefers direct, action-oriented language. When dictating, she enunciates clearly but sometimes rushes through punctuation, relying on the software to interpret her intent.

  1. You land on https://voicetation.com/ (Voicetation) for the first time. What's unclear, what makes you leave, and what would make you sign up?

Okay, landing on Voicetation... what's unclear? The page mentions iOS 18 or later, but my phone is usually updated, so that's probably fine. The "Start PiP Automatically" setting is a bit confusing – why is Picture in Picture needed for a keyboard? I'd leave because it's not immediately clear how this is *that* much better than the free dictation I already use. My biggest problem is just finding time to draft everything, and I'm not sure if this will save me enough time to be worth the setup. What would make me sign up? If it *really* nails client names and jargon without me having to constantly correct it, and if the "rewrite" feature can genuinely speed up making captions sound more professional. The free, no-account aspect is definitely a plus, though.
