“Every shipment tells a story, and finding those hidden narratives is how we build better trade routes for everyone.”

Born and raised in Utrecht, Diede developed an early fascination with how goods moved across borders, inspired by her father's work in international trade consulting. She pursued a Bachelor's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at a reputable Dutch university, where she excelled academically and honed her analytical skills. During her studies, she completed internships with both a major shipping line and a smaller, niche freight forwarder, gaining diverse perspectives. After graduating, she joined her current company, initially in an operational support role before quickly demonstrating her aptitude for business development. Her proactive approach and ability to identify unmet client needs led to her promotion to lead the SME cross-border desk four years ago. Diede’s success is built on a foundation of meticulous data analysis, combined with a genuine ability to connect with people and understand their business challenges. She recently championed the adoption of a new market intelligence platform, a decision that has already begun to yield valuable insights, though integrating it fully with existing workflows remains an ongoing effort. She views time as a critical resource and is constantly seeking ways to optimize processes, both for herself and her team, believing that efficiency directly translates to client satisfaction and company growth. While not driven by overt status symbols, she derives satisfaction from achieving ambitious targets and contributing measurably to the company's expansion.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Diede's day typically begins around 7:30 AM with a quick scan of global shipping news and her email inbox over coffee. She cycles to the office by 9:00 AM, immediately diving into shipment data analysis using proprietary software and external market intelligence tools, looking for patterns in volume and new trade flows. Her morning is often punctuated by calls with potential clients in Germany, discussing their import/export needs. After a working lunch, she holds a brief team sync to discuss leads and ongoing client projects. The afternoon might involve a strategy meeting with her manager or a networking call with a potential partner. She aims to leave by 6:00 PM, often heading to a business dinner or a casual meetup with friends.

Questions & answers

Diede van Dongen’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What would stop you from trying TradeMagellan (https://www.trademagellan.com) this month? Be specific about how you handle this today. Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

Right now, the biggest obstacle to trying TradeMagellan is how to integrate it with our current workflow. We just implemented a new market intelligence platform, and getting the team up to speed and fully utilizing that is my priority. I'd need to see a very clear path to how this tool would complement, not complicate, what we're already doing. I'd also need to understand the exact data sources and how they differ from what we're already accessing. Given our focus on SMEs in Benelux and Germany, I'd need to know if the data coverage is granular enough for that specific market. For pricing, I'd be looking at around $149 per month for a Pro Plus equivalent, provided it offers significant value beyond our current tools.
