“The devil is in the details, and with OOH, those details are literally on the street – you have to be sure they're right.”

Selina de Wit, 38, is a highly conscientious and detail-oriented Media Planner based in Amsterdam. Holding an M.Sc. in Marketing Analytics, she has carved out a niche in Out-of-Home (OOH) media planning, focusing specifically on the Netherlands and Belgium markets for her mid-sized agency. Her career trajectory has been marked by a steady ascent, driven by her innate ability to dissect complex data sets and her unwavering commitment to accuracy. She lives with her partner in a vibrant Amsterdam neighborhood, maintaining a structured lifestyle that balances professional ambition with personal well-being. Selina's daily routine is a testament to her organized nature; she cycles to work, meticulously plans her tasks, and dedicates significant effort to ensuring the success of every campaign. Her current professional challenge revolves around the creative aspect of OOH advertising. While her agency utilizes a sophisticated planning platform for inventory and scheduling, Selina has identified a critical gap in its ability to effectively evaluate the real-world readability and impact of final billboard copy. This has led her to develop and maintain a rigorous, spreadsheet-based review process. This personal system allows her to meticulously sanity-check creative elements, cross-referencing them against various environmental factors and readability guidelines. This dedication to a manual, yet effective, process highlights her commitment to accountability and her drive for flawless execution, even if it means investing extra hours beyond what her primary tools provide. She views this meticulous approach not as a burden, but as an essential component of delivering superior results for her clients in a visually competitive landscape.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Selina's weekday typically begins around 7:00 AM. After a quick breakfast and checking urgent emails, she cycles the 6km to her office, listening to a podcast. Her morning is usually dedicated to client calls, campaign performance analysis, and updating the agency's planning platform. Lunch is a packed meal eaten at her desk while reviewing industry news. The afternoon involves deep dives into OOH inventory, negotiating with media owners, and, crucially, her manual creative review process using spreadsheets to check billboard copy readability. She often stays until 6:00 PM, cycling home to prepare dinner with her partner, followed by an evening of relaxation or catching up on professional reading.

Lifestyle

Selina lives in a well-organized, modern apartment in Amsterdam Oud-West with her partner, a software developer. Their routine is structured but allows for spontaneous weekend trips. She prioritizes her health, cycling to work daily and enjoying yoga twice a week. Financially, she's a saver, contributing consistently to her pension and a joint fund for future travel. Socially, she prefers intimate gatherings with close friends over large parties, often hosting dinner parties where she meticulously plans the menu. She values her downtime, often spent reading or exploring new neighborhoods on her bike.

Work life

As a Media Planner specializing in OOH for the Benelux region, Selina's days are a blend of strategic planning and meticulous execution. She navigates complex inventory systems and client briefs, constantly striving for optimal campaign placement and impact. Her agency uses a robust planning platform for inventory and scheduling, but Selina finds its creative review capabilities lacking. This leads her to dedicate significant time to a detailed spreadsheet process, cross-referencing data and manually assessing creative readability in simulated real-world contexts. Coworkers describe her as the go-to person for accuracy, though some find her process-heavy approach a bit rigid. The pressure to deliver measurable results while managing tight client budgets is a constant undercurrent.

Relationships

Selina is in a stable, long-term relationship with her partner, who provides a supportive and grounding influence. Her closest friends are a mix of former university colleagues and individuals met through shared interests; they value her thoughtful advice and reliability. Her parents, who live in a smaller town in Noord-Brabant, are proud of her career but occasionally express concern about her demanding workload.

How they decide

Selina approaches decisions with a high degree of caution and thorough research. She meticulously gathers data, analyzes options, and often creates comparative spreadsheets to weigh pros and cons. Peer input is considered, but ultimately, she relies on her own analysis and established processes to arrive at a conclusion. She is not impulsive and prefers to avoid ambiguity.

How they sound

Selina speaks with a clear, measured cadence, her Dutch accent subtly present. Her tone is generally professional and polite, avoiding overly casual slang in work contexts. She uses precise language, especially when discussing data or processes, and tends to frame her points logically. She avoids hyperbole and prefers direct, factual statements. When enthusiastic, her voice gains a bit more energy, but she remains articulate.

The biggest problem is definitely ensuring the final billboard copy is actually readable in different lighting and distances. We spend hours on spreadsheets, cross-referencing against readability guidelines and manually simulating views.
