“Every day is a chance to build something better, faster, and simpler than yesterday.”

Kyara van den Heuvel, a 27-year-old indie SaaS founder and content marketer based in Amsterdam, has carved out a niche for herself by focusing on efficiency and clear communication. Armed with a Bachelor's degree, she launched her own software product two years ago, driven by a desire for autonomy and a passion for solving specific workflow problems for creators. Her journey into entrepreneurship wasn't a straight path; after a brief stint in a more corporate marketing role post-graduation, she felt constrained by the slow pace and rigid structures. She yearned for the ability to directly implement her ideas and see immediate results, which led her to the world of bootstrapping. Her current SaaS aims to streamline video production for small teams and solo creators, a space she intimately understands from her own content marketing efforts. Kyara is deeply invested in the 'creator economy' and actively produces all her own marketing materials, including detailed product demos, engaging launch clips, and transparent founder updates. This hands-on approach means she's constantly refining her own workflows, editing primarily in Final Cut Pro and using Loom for quick screen recordings and tutorials. Her operational hub is Notion, where she meticulously manages scripts, cut lists, and publishing schedules, syncing them with a shared calendar to maintain a consistent output. She values speed and simplicity above all, constantly seeking ways to optimize her processes and reduce friction, both for herself and her users. Her income of €54k reflects the early-stage nature of her bootstrapped venture; she reinvests most profits back into the business, prioritizing sustainable growth over rapid scaling. Kyara is driven by a continuous learning mindset, always exploring new tools and techniques to enhance her product and marketing strategies, particularly in the burgeoning field of AI-assisted content creation. She recently decided to integrate a new AI scriptwriting assistant into her workflow, aiming to reduce the time spent on initial drafts and focus more on refining the narrative and visual storytelling.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Kyara's typical weekday begins around 7:30 AM with a cup of coffee and a quick meditation session. By 8:30 AM, she's at her desk, reviewing her Notion task list and shared calendar for the day's priorities. The morning is usually dedicated to content creation: scripting a new product demo, recording voiceovers, or editing footage in Final Cut Pro. Lunch is a quick, healthy meal, often eaten while watching a relevant YouTube tutorial. The afternoon might involve responding to customer inquiries, planning future content, or engaging with her online community. She aims to wrap up by 6:00 PM, but often finds herself revisiting tasks or brainstorming ideas in the evening, especially if a launch or deadline is approaching. She and her partner usually cook dinner together.

Lifestyle

Kyara lives a focused but balanced life in Amsterdam. She shares a comfortable apartment with her partner and their cat, finding quiet mornings for work before the city truly wakes. Weekends often involve exploring local markets, cycling along the canals, or catching up with friends. She prioritizes her well-being through regular yoga and meditation, which help manage the inherent stresses of running a startup. Financially, she's prudent, preferring to reinvest profits back into her business or save for future growth, but she's not afraid to spend on tools or courses that directly enhance her productivity and learning.

Work life

Kyara's work life is a whirlwind of content creation and strategic marketing for her indie SaaS. Her days are meticulously planned, often starting with reviewing her Notion dashboards for tasks and content schedules. She spends significant blocks of time scripting, recording, and editing product demos, founder updates, and short social media clips using Final Cut Pro and Loom. The pressure to consistently produce high-quality content while also developing her product is immense. She collaborates occasionally with a freelance graphic designer for assets, but most of the creative and technical heavy lifting falls on her. Her workspace is a dedicated corner of her apartment, optimized for video editing.

Relationships

Kyara's primary support system is her partner, who understands the demands of entrepreneurship and offers emotional encouragement. She maintains close contact with her parents and siblings, who live in different parts of the Netherlands, through regular video calls. Her professional network is largely online, consisting of fellow indie SaaS founders and content creators she interacts with on Twitter and in private Slack communities, offering mutual advice and support.

How they decide

Kyara approaches decisions with a blend of analytical research and pragmatic testing. She'll thoroughly investigate options, read reviews, and compare features, but ultimately, she values speed and simplicity. If a tool or workflow promises to save significant time or streamline a complex process, she's willing to try it, often making a decision based on perceived efficiency and potential for learning, rather than solely on long-term cost.

How they sound

Speaks with a clear, measured cadence, often using precise language. Her Dutch accent is subtle but present. She avoids overly casual slang or jargon unless it's specific to the tech or creator community she's part of. Her tone is generally enthusiastic and optimistic when discussing her work, but can become more analytical and direct when explaining technical details or business strategy. She tends to be articulate and thoughtful, pausing occasionally to formulate her thoughts.

Questions & answers

Kyara van den Heuvel’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Think about your own work or business in this area: Maker launch on producthunt: Open-source, agent-first AI video editor for macOS and Windows. Describe the film — agents cut the timeline, add motion and sound, and review the render. What is the single biggest problem you have there right now? Be specific about what it costs you (time, money, customers) and what you have already tried.

The single biggest problem for me with something like this is time. My mornings are already packed with scripting, recording, and editing, and then I still have customer support and product development. Introducing a new agent-based system, even if it cuts down on initial draft time, would require a significant learning curve and integration effort. I've tried dedicating more focused blocks of time to scripting, but it's hard to consistently hit those. The cost is hours I could be spending on actual development or marketing, and potentially losing out on faster content production cycles that could drive user acquisition.
