“Every pixel matters, but so does the story it tells. It’s about finding that perfect balance between looking great and driving real results.”

Martine Roger grew up in a suburb of Lyon, the daughter of a librarian and an engineer, fostering in her a dual appreciation for structured knowledge and logical problem-solving. Her academic journey led her to a Master's in Digital Marketing from a reputable Parisian university, where she developed a keen interest in the intersection of design, user experience, and quantifiable business outcomes. She gravitated towards growth marketing early on, finding immense satisfaction in the iterative process of testing, learning, and optimizing. Her first few years post-graduation were spent at a small digital agency, honing her skills in content creation and campaign management. About two years ago, she joined her current Series A startup, drawn by the promise of working on a cutting-edge product and the opportunity to make a significant impact. Living in Paris fuels her appreciation for aesthetics, which she consciously applies to her work, believing that well-designed visuals are crucial for engaging users. She manages her finances pragmatically, balancing current needs with long-term savings goals, a trait inherited from her practical upbringing. Her work life is intensely focused on measurable results, and she sees tools and processes as enablers of efficiency and effectiveness. She’s recently been focused on streamlining her asset management workflow, recognizing that the current spreadsheet system, while functional, is becoming a significant time sink as the company scales. She’s always on the lookout for smarter ways to work, driven by a desire to excel and contribute meaningfully to her team's success.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Martine's typical weekday starts around 7:30 AM. After a quick breakfast and checking personal messages, she’s on her Mac by 8:30 AM, often starting with a scan of marketing analytics and her team’s Slack channels. Her morning is usually dedicated to creating visual assets: capturing screen recordings of new features, editing them in ScreenFlow, and then designing accompanying graphics in Figma. Lunch is a quick affair, often a sandwich eaten at her desk while reviewing a draft of a new landing page. Afternoons are a mix of coordinating feedback with design and content, updating her asset spreadsheet, and experimenting with A/B tests on existing pages. She aims to wrap up by 6:30 PM, often followed by a brief team sync call.

Lifestyle

Martine lives in a charming but compact one-bedroom apartment in the 11th arrondissement, filled with plants and carefully chosen art prints. Her evenings often involve trying out new recipes or catching up with friends over a glass of wine at a local bistro. She values her health, making time for a brisk walk through the Luxembourg Gardens on weekend mornings and occasionally attending a yoga class. Financially, she's responsible, saving diligently for future travel and a potential down payment on a small property, but doesn't shy away from investing in experiences or quality items that enhance her daily life. She enjoys quiet nights in as much as social outings.

Work life

As the sole Growth Marketer for a small, fast-paced product team, Martine juggles a wide array of responsibilities. Her days are a constant stream of creating and refining visual assets for marketing campaigns – think slick landing page screenshots, compelling social proof graphics, and concise screen recordings for product demos. She meticulously maintains a detailed spreadsheet to track different versions of these assets, a system that’s become indispensable. Coordination with the small design and content team, often involving back-and-forth on Slack and brief calls, is a significant part of her role. The pressure to show measurable growth is ever-present, pushing her to constantly experiment and optimize.

Relationships

Martine is close with her parents, who live a few hours away, and her younger brother. Her core group of friends, many met during university, are a vital support system, offering both fun and honest advice. Professionally, she values her direct colleagues, particularly the lead designer, with whom she has a very collaborative working relationship, and she occasionally seeks informal advice from mentors she met at past industry events.

How they decide

Martine tends to be a deliberate decision-maker. She values clear data and evidence when possible, but also relies on her strong sense of aesthetics and user empathy. For work-related tools or processes, she'll often research options, read reviews, and consult with a trusted colleague or two before committing, always weighing efficiency against potential benefits.

How they sound

Martine speaks with a clear, measured cadence, articulating her thoughts precisely. Her French is fluent and unaccented, with a professional but approachable tone. She uses standard professional vocabulary but isn't afraid of occasional colloquialisms when speaking with close colleagues, though she avoids excessive slang. She tends to frame questions and suggestions constructively, often using phrases like 'Perhaps we could try...' or 'What if we considered...'. She’s direct when necessary but always aims for politeness and clarity.

Questions & answers

Martine Roger’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at ShotGlass (https://shotglass.app): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

This ShotGlass app sounds intriguing, especially the idea of AI-assisted recording and editing to make demos look polished – that could save me so much time trying to achieve that 'Apple commercial' look. My current workflow with ScreenFlow and Figma is quite manual, and keeping track of all the asset versions in a spreadsheet is becoming a real headache. The idea of consolidating this into one tool is appealing. For a 'Personal' license, a one-time payment of $29 USD seems quite reasonable, especially since it includes all features and a year of updates. If there was a subscription option, I'd be hesitant to pay more than $15 USD per month, as my budget for tools is limited and I need to justify the expense against the time saved. The 'Solo, or shout the team' at $39 USD/year also seems interesting for team usage.
