“The ground is shifting under search as we know it; my job is to help brands navigate this new landscape before they get left behind.”

Jimmie Kertzmann, 45, is the founder and driving force behind AI Visibility Partners, a niche consultancy based in Austin, Texas. With a Bachelor's degree and five years dedicated to this specialized field, Jimmie has carved out a unique space in the digital marketing landscape. His journey into AI search auditing began organically, stemming from his deep background in SEO and a keen observation of how generative AI was fundamentally altering search engine results pages (SERPs). He recognized early on that brands needed a new way to understand their presence not just in traditional links, but within the synthesized answers provided by platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. He established AI Visibility Partners with a lean, three-person team, focusing on providing granular audits of client brand visibility within these AI-generated responses. This involves a meticulous process of analyzing how clients appear, whether they are cited, and how their competitors are performing in the same AI-driven queries. While the team utilizes a competitor's monitoring tool for efficiency on larger accounts, Jimmie insists on supplementing this with rigorous manual checks and custom analysis, particularly for smaller clients who require a more bespoke approach. This dual strategy reflects his commitment to both scalability and deep, personalized service. Jimmie's financial approach is pragmatic; his $165k income supports a comfortable but not extravagant lifestyle, with a significant portion reinvested into the business for tools and talent development. He's driven by a desire for independence and a deep-seated belief in the value of expertise, aiming to build lasting client trust through transparent and actionable insights. His recent decision to invest in developing proprietary data visualization dashboards stems from a desire to offer clients clearer, more impactful reporting than current market tools provide. He sees the rapid evolution of AI not as a threat, but as a frontier ripe for strategic navigation, positioning himself and his firm at the forefront of this critical shift in digital visibility.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Jimmie's typical weekday starts around 6:00 AM with a cycling session. By 8:00 AM, he's home, showered, and has had breakfast while reviewing overnight AI search updates for a key client. The morning is usually packed with client calls – perhaps a strategy session with a new prospect or a performance review with an existing client. Around noon, he’ll grab a quick, healthy lunch, often from a local spot. The afternoon is dedicated to deep work: analyzing AI answer data, refining reports, or collaborating with Maya and Ben on complex audits. He might spend an hour testing a new AI tool or researching a competitor's approach. He aims to wrap up client-facing work by 5:30 PM, often followed by an hour of internal business development or learning before heading home for dinner.

Lifestyle

Jimmie maintains a balanced lifestyle in Austin, prioritizing his health and intellectual pursuits. He lives with his wife, Sarah, a graphic designer, in a comfortable, modern condo near Zilker Park. Mornings typically begin with a brisk 5-mile bike ride along the trails, followed by a strong pour-over coffee and a quick scan of tech headlines. He's a regular at local Austin eateries, enjoying the city's diverse culinary scene, especially food trucks and farm-to-table restaurants. Evenings are often spent either working late on client reports, listening to a startup podcast while prepping dinner, or occasionally attending local tech meetups. He values his independence and strives to keep his personal and professional lives distinct, though the lines can blur given his passion for his work.

Work life

Jimmie's consultancy, 'AI Visibility Partners,' operates leanly with himself and two junior analysts. His days are a blend of client strategy calls, deep-dive AI answer audits, and refining their proprietary reporting templates. He spends significant time evaluating new AI models and their implications for search visibility. The team uses a competitor's tool for larger clients but relies heavily on manual analysis and custom scripts for smaller accounts, a process Jimmie finds both necessary and time-consuming. He's constantly pressured by the rapid evolution of AI, needing to stay ahead of the curve to maintain client trust and demonstrate tangible value. Coworkers are treated as valued team members, with Jimmie fostering an environment of shared learning and problem-solving.

Relationships

Jimmie is married to Sarah, who provides a grounding influence and creative perspective. They share a close bond, often discussing business challenges and life goals over dinner. He maintains a small circle of trusted friends, mostly fellow entrepreneurs and tech professionals in Austin, with whom he exchanges insights and offers support. His two employees, Maya and Ben, are treated with respect and are integral to the consultancy's success; he values their input and dedication.

How they decide

Jimmie is a research-heavy decision-maker, meticulously analyzing data and weighing pros and cons. He seeks out expert opinions and case studies but ultimately trusts his own analytical judgment. He is not impulsive, preferring to understand the long-term implications before committing resources or changing strategies. He values evidence and demonstrable results above all else.

How they sound

Jimmie speaks with a clear, measured cadence, avoiding jargon where possible but comfortable using technical terms when necessary. His tone is generally calm and professional, with a hint of enthusiasm when discussing AI advancements. He tends to be direct and factual, but can also be persuasive when explaining complex concepts. He avoids overly casual slang and prefers a slightly more formal, yet approachable, communication style. He often uses phrases like 'from an analytical standpoint,' 'the data suggests,' or 'our primary focus here is.'

Questions & answers

Jimmie Kertzmann’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at ShareofAI (https://www.shareof.ai): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

The 'Starter' plan at $49/mo seems like a reasonable entry point for what it offers, covering essential monitoring for a single project. For my consultancy, with a small team and a need to demonstrate tangible value to clients quickly, a price around $150/month would be a no-brainer if it provided daily refreshes across multiple AI models and robust reporting. However, if the 'Growth' plan at $149/mo (discounted from $89/mo) is actually $149/mo and doesn't offer significantly more value than the Starter plan for our use case, it would be too high. I'd need to see clear differentiation in features or data volume to justify that jump. The agency plan is definitely too much for our current three-person operation.
