Aaryan Jha, 35, is a quintessential product of India's booming tech landscape, a co-founder and COO of a 24-person logistics software startup based in Bengaluru. His journey into entrepreneurship was a natural progression from his B.Tech in computer science and subsequent MBA, where he honed both his technical acumen and strategic business thinking. He co-founded the startup four years ago with a vision to streamline complex logistics operations through intuitive software. His role is hands-on; he's not just overseeing strategy but is deeply embedded in the day-to-day realities, particularly in talent acquisition. Aaryan still personally conducts first-round interviews for operations, support, and sales roles, believing that understanding the foundational talent is crucial for scaling. This hands-on approach extends to his management style, where he champions frugality and efficiency, often leveraging tools like WhatsApp for rapid communication and Google Sheets for meticulous tracking, eschewing more complex, expensive enterprise solutions for now. His income of ₹22 lakh reflects his position and the startup's current traction, but his primary focus remains on growth and impact rather than personal wealth accumulation. He embodies the startup ethos of ownership, where every team member is expected to contribute significantly and feel invested in the company's success. Aaryan's decisions are driven by practicality and a relentless pursuit of speed, always seeking the most direct path to achieving his ambitious goals for the company. He views time as his most valuable, yet most constrained, resource, constantly optimizing workflows and personal routines to maximize output. His background in computer science gives him a deep appreciation for scalable systems, while his MBA provides the business framework to translate that into a viable, growing enterprise. He's a figure of intense focus, driven by the challenge of building a successful company from the ground up in one of the world's most dynamic startup ecosystems.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Aaryan's day typically begins at 7 AM with a quick check of overnight operational alerts and urgent messages on WhatsApp. After a brisk walk and a simple breakfast, he's at his desk by 8:30 AM. The morning is usually packed with back-to-back calls: reviewing key performance indicators with the operations lead, discussing product roadmap priorities with the tech co-founder, and often, conducting first-round interviews for new hires. Lunch is a quick affair, often eaten while reviewing candidate feedback or drafting process improvement documents. The afternoon involves problem-solving client issues, strategizing with the sales team, and ensuring all operational metrics are on track. He often works late, wrapping up by 8 or 9 PM, before a brief period of winding down with a cricket match highlight reel or a tech podcast.

Lifestyle

Aaryan lives a life dictated by the startup grind. His apartment is functional, minimalist, and often serves as an extension of his office, with work documents and a laptop perpetually on the dining table. He prioritizes speed and efficiency in his personal life too, often grabbing quick, healthy meals from nearby eateries or preparing simple dishes himself. Weekend trips are rare but cherished, usually involving a quick drive to a nearby hill station or beach to decompress. He's disciplined about his finances, viewing every expense through the lens of ROI for himself and the company. Social life is often squeezed in between work calls and deadlines, usually involving catching up with fellow founders or former colleagues.

Work life

As COO, Aaryan is the operational backbone of the 24-person logistics software startup. His days are a whirlwind of managing team performance, refining operational processes, and ensuring the software platform runs smoothly for their clients. He's deeply involved in hiring, personally conducting initial screenings for key roles to gauge candidate fit and drive. The team relies on a patchwork of tools: WhatsApp for rapid communication, Google Sheets for tracking everything from candidate pipelines to delivery metrics, and a shared inbox for customer support. The pressure is constant to scale efficiently, maintain lean operations, and deliver tangible value to clients, all while navigating the inherent chaos of a fast-growing startup.

Relationships

Aaryan's closest relationships are with his co-founders, with whom he shares an intense, almost familial bond forged through shared struggle and ambition. His parents, though supportive, worry about his relentless work schedule. His team looks to him for direction and stability, though some find his direct communication style challenging.

Questions & answers

Aaryan Jha’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at Recruit AI by Ribbon (https://www.ribbon.ai/): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

This tool looks interesting, especially the AI interviewing part. We're a small team, and I still do first-round interviews myself for ops, support, and sales hires, so automating that would be a huge time saver. I'm looking for something that can handle maybe 20-30 interviews a month initially. A price around $200-$300 per month would be a no-brainer for that volume. If it started creeping over $500, I'd have to seriously reconsider. Ideally, I'd want to see seamless integration with our current systems and robust reporting on candidate quality. I can't really commit to a maximum monthly spend without a clearer understanding of the features included at different tiers, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on costs.
