“You've got to keep a close eye on the numbers, otherwise, it’s just guesswork, and guesswork doesn't pay the bills.”

Christine Steuber grew up in a working-class family in Bradford, where a strong emphasis was placed on hard work and financial prudence. She attended a local college, earning a diploma in Business Administration, which provided her with a solid foundation for her career. After a few years in administrative roles at larger companies, she found the corporate environment too impersonal and the hours too demanding for family life. Four years ago, she joined her business partner to build their own ecommerce venture, drawn by the prospect of a more flexible, home-based business that aligned with her values of organisation and stability. She lives by the principle that a well-managed operation, even a small one, can provide security. Her income of £36k reflects the current scale of their business, but she's constantly looking for ways to increase efficiency and profitability. Christine’s approach to money is sensible; she meticulously tracks expenses and prioritises saving for future stability and her son’s education over frivolous spending. Her limited openness score suggests she's not one for radical change, preferring to refine existing systems rather than embrace entirely new, unproven methods. Her high conscientiousness is evident in her daily routine and her dedicated approach to managing the business's operations. She recently made the decision to focus their product sourcing more heavily on items with proven seasonal demand spikes, rather than taking risks on untested novelties, a move aimed at maximising immediate returns during peak periods.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Christine's weekday begins at 6:30 AM with getting Leo ready for school. After the school run, she's at her home office by 8:45 AM, immediately diving into email correspondence and reviewing the shared spreadsheet for margin checks and competitor updates. Mid-morning involves sourcing new products from suppliers or platforms, followed by lunch at her desk while scanning retail trend reports. The afternoon is dedicated to listing new products, optimising existing ones, and planning upcoming seasonal campaigns. She finishes work around 5:00 PM to be present for Leo, then might spend an hour after dinner reviewing performance data or listening to a podcast while tidying up. She prioritises closing the laptop by 9:30 PM.

Lifestyle

Christine shares a semi-detached house in a suburb of Leeds with her husband, Mark, and their son, Leo. Weekdays are a carefully choreographed dance between school runs, managing their online store, and household chores. Weekends are sacred family time, often involving walks in Roundhay Park, visiting local markets, or quiet evenings at home. She's a pragmatic saver, preferring to put money aside for future security and occasional, well-researched purchases rather than impulsive splurges. Health-wise, she tries to walk more and cuts back on takeaways during busy periods.

Work life

As the operations manager for a small, two-person ecommerce venture specializing in seasonal impulse buys, Christine's role is hands-on and multifaceted. Her days are dominated by product sourcing, meticulously checking margins, and creating detailed competitor screenshots. She manages the product listing process, ensuring all details are accurate and optimised for online visibility. Collaboration with her business partner is constant, often via quick chats and shared document updates. The pressure is on to stay ahead of trends and ensure stock availability for peak seasons, with tight deadlines for new product launches.

Relationships

Christine is married to Mark, who handles the marketing and customer service for their business. They are a true partnership, balancing each other's strengths. Her parents live nearby and often help with childcare, reinforcing her value of family support. Her close circle of friends are mostly mums she met through Leo's school, sharing similar lifestyle challenges.

How they decide

Christine is a cautious and research-driven decision-maker. She weighs options carefully, prioritises practicality and long-term value, and seeks tangible evidence before committing. She prefers to understand all the angles and potential implications, often creating lists or spreadsheets to compare choices before making a final call.

How they sound

Her speech is clear and measured, with a slight Yorkshire lilt that becomes more pronounced when she’s relaxed. She uses straightforward language, avoiding jargon unless it’s specific to ecommerce. She tends to understate, preferring to focus on facts and processes rather than emotional displays. You won't hear her complaining excessively, but rather stating issues as challenges to be solved. She uses phrases like 'right then,' 'let's have a look,' and 'it's a bit of a juggle.'

Questions & answers

Christine Steuber’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. You land on https://www.productlair.com (ProductLair) for the first time. What's unclear, what makes you leave, and what would make you sign up?

Right then, this ProductLair site looks interesting. It says it finds winning products with profit data and launch plans, which sounds like it could save us a lot of time. What's unclear is exactly how they do their analysis – is it all AI or real people? And how are they sure these products aren't already saturated by the time we see them? We've lost money on untested novelties before. The idea of a one-time payment for lifetime access is appealing, especially compared to those monthly subscriptions. The $49 one-time price for 'Research' seems reasonable if it genuinely helps us avoid wasted effort and cash, but I'd need to see more proof of the 'real human analysis' before signing up.
