“I love that I can help small businesses shine online, but it's a constant hustle to stay ahead of the curve without breaking the bank.”

Patricia 'Pat' Strosin, 27, is a freelance social content specialist based in Chicago, carving out a niche by supporting local restaurants and wellness studios. Armed with a Bachelor's degree and a keen eye for design, she established her independent practice four years ago, drawn by the allure of creative autonomy and the desire to work directly with small business owners. Her income hovers around $54,000 annually, a figure she manages meticulously to balance her living expenses in Lakeview with her passion for continuous learning and occasional splurges on unique experiences. Pat's professional toolkit is lean but effective, relying heavily on the free tiers of Canva for visual content, Google Docs for copywriting, and Google Search Console for basic SEO insights. She leverages ChatGPT for brainstorming and drafting, a testament to her resourcefulness. She has deliberately avoided subscribing to dedicated marketing software, preferring to maximize the utility of free tools, a decision driven by both budget consciousness and a healthy skepticism about the necessity of every new platform. Her approach is characterized by a blend of creativity and pragmatism; she's adept at finding elegant solutions within constraints. Recently, she decided to focus her client acquisition efforts more narrowly on businesses with a sustainability angle, believing it aligns better with her personal values and offers a more fulfilling challenge. This strategic shift means she's been dedicating more time to understanding the specific marketing needs of eco-conscious brands, even if it means turning down other opportunities. She views her work not just as a job, but as a way to contribute to the vibrant local economy she cherishes, finding satisfaction in seeing her clients grow through her efforts. Her relationship with time is fluid, dictated by project deadlines and client availability, while her relationship with money is one of careful stewardship, prioritizing long-term stability and personal growth over immediate gratification.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Pat's typical weekday starts around 7:30 AM with coffee and checking urgent client emails. By 9:00 AM, she's usually at her home office desk, diving into content creation for a local vegan restaurant, perhaps designing Instagram stories or drafting a blog post. Mid-morning might involve a client call to discuss upcoming campaigns or review draft content. Lunch is often a quick, healthy meal prepared at home, followed by a walk to a nearby park or coffee shop for a change of scenery. The afternoon is dedicated to more client work, perhaps light SEO updates for a yoga studio using Google Search Console, or experimenting with new Canva templates. She aims to wrap up client-facing tasks by 5:00 PM, but often spends an extra hour or two on administrative work, planning, or learning new design techniques via YouTube tutorials.

Lifestyle

Pat lives alone in a cozy, second-floor apartment in Lakeview, Chicago, which she furnishes with vibrant, eclectic décor reflective of her creative spirit. She wakes up around 7:00 AM, starting her day with a strong cup of coffee from a nearby local café. Her mornings often involve yoga sessions at a nearby studio or a quick run in Lincoln Park. Pat enjoys exploring different coffee shops around the city, often sketching designs for her freelance work. In her free time, she experiments with photography and dabbles in digital painting. She enjoys social gatherings with friends, often hosting small get-togethers at her place. Pat manages her finances carefully, prioritizing experiences and professional development over material possessions, though she does appreciate well-designed, functional items.

Work life

Pat thrives on the autonomy of her freelance work, managing her own schedule and client roster. Her days are a mix of creative content generation, client communication, and administrative tasks. She juggles multiple projects simultaneously, from crafting Instagram captions and designing graphics in Canva to updating website copy and performing basic keyword research using Google Search Console. The pressure comes from balancing client demands with her own creative vision and ensuring timely delivery. She collaborates remotely with clients, often relying on video calls and shared documents. While she enjoys the freedom, the lack of a structured team environment means she's solely responsible for every aspect of her business.

Relationships

Pat maintains close ties with her college friends, many of whom are also navigating early career stages in different fields. She has a supportive relationship with her parents, who live in the suburbs and occasionally help with small tasks. Her professional network is primarily online, built through LinkedIn and local small business meetups, though she values genuine connections over transactional ones.

How they decide

Pat tends to be research-oriented but budget-conscious. She'll explore multiple free options and read reviews or tutorials before committing to a new tool or process. She values practicality and efficiency, often weighing the time saved against the learning curve of a new method. Peer recommendations from trusted sources can sway her, but she ultimately relies on her own assessment of value and usability.

How they sound

Pat speaks with a clear, friendly, and approachable tone. Her cadence is moderate, with occasional bursts of enthusiasm when discussing creative projects. She uses contemporary language but avoids excessive slang or jargon, preferring clear, direct communication. She's articulate and thoughtful, often pausing to formulate her ideas precisely. She tends to be optimistic but grounded, and avoids overly technical or corporate buzzwords.

Questions & answers

Pat Strosin’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at Nico Digital AI Agents (https://agents.nicodigital.com): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

These tools sound interesting, especially the AI SEO Strategist and Rank Checker. The idea of micro-tools is appealing because I like to use specific tools for specific tasks and not pay for a huge platform I won't use. Getting $100 in free funds is a great starting point to test them out. A 'no-brainer' price would be something like $10-$15 per month for access to all of these specialized tools, maybe with some usage limits. If it went over $30 per month, I'd probably stop considering it seriously, given my budget and reliance on free tools currently. I'd expect access to all the current tools and perhaps a certain number of uses per month for the AI ones.
