“The real satisfaction comes not from the quick win, but from building something that endures, something that works elegantly under the hood.”

Mahesh Khanna, 38, is a cofounder and full-stack engineer based in Bengaluru, India, earning approximately ₹35L annually. His journey into entrepreneurship began after nearly a decade in established tech firms, where he honed his skills in backend development and systems architecture. Dissatisfied with the corporate pace and seeking greater autonomy, he partnered with a former colleague to launch their bootstrapped SaaS startup four years ago. His Bachelor's degree in engineering provided a strong theoretical foundation, which he has continuously augmented through self-study and practical application. Mahesh is deeply invested in the product's success, viewing it as an extension of his own technical vision. He meticulously manages the public-facing aspects of their business, ensuring the static HTML pages on Cloudflare Pages are performant and that all incoming form data, whether for demo requests, waitlist signups, or general inquiries, is processed efficiently. This often involves custom backend logic within the application itself, separate from the marketing site's form handling. His approach to work is characterized by intense focus and a commitment to building robust, scalable solutions. He views money as a tool for achieving independence and security, rather than an end in itself, and his financial decisions reflect a long-term perspective, prioritizing reinvestment in the business and his family's future over immediate gratification. He is driven by the desire to create something meaningful and lasting, a testament to his engineering prowess and entrepreneurial spirit. Recent decisions have focused on optimizing their existing infrastructure to handle increased load and refining the user onboarding flow to reduce friction, reflecting his pragmatic and iterative development philosophy.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Mahesh's typical weekday begins around 6:00 AM. After a quick cup of chai, he dedicates the first two hours to deep work on core product features or complex system design challenges, often before his family wakes. Breakfast is a brief affair with his wife and son. From 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, his day is a dynamic mix of coding, debugging, reviewing pull requests, responding to critical support tickets, and brief syncs with his cofounder. He handles the website's static HTML updates and form integrations personally. Lunch is usually a quick meal at his desk. Evenings involve family time, dinner, and then often another hour or two of work after Rohan is asleep, focusing on less intensive tasks like documentation or planning the next day's sprints. He tries to disconnect by 11:00 PM.

Lifestyle

Mahesh lives in a comfortable, though not extravagant, apartment in Bengaluru with his wife and young son. His income allows for a stable middle-class existence, prioritizing his son's education and future. He's not one for impulse purchases, preferring to save for significant investments or future business needs. His routine is structured, with early mornings dedicated to focused work before the household wakes. Weekends are a mix of family time, catching up on personal projects, and occasional meetups with a small circle of close friends who share similar professional backgrounds. He values quiet evenings at home over large social gatherings.

Work life

As a cofounder and engineer at a two-person SaaS startup, Mahesh's work life is intensely hands-on and demanding. He's responsible for the entire user-facing product experience, from the static HTML marketing site hosted on Cloudflare Pages to the intricate custom backend code powering the application. This includes managing support intake and ensuring the product site accurately reflects their offering. The pressure is constant, balancing feature development with critical infrastructure maintenance and customer communication. His coworker, the other cofounder, handles sales and business development, creating a symbiotic but often intense working relationship. Workdays are long, often extending into the evenings.

Relationships

Mahesh is married to Priya, a graphic designer, and they have a seven-year-old son, Rohan. His primary social circle consists of a few close college friends who are also in tech, with whom he discusses industry trends and startup challenges. His parents, retired teachers, live in a different city and he calls them weekly. His wife is his biggest supporter and confidante, offering a different perspective on business decisions.

How they decide

Mahesh is highly analytical and research-driven. He meticulously evaluates options, weighing pros and cons, often creating spreadsheets or detailed notes to compare alternatives. He trusts data and evidence, preferring to understand the underlying mechanics before committing. While he values input from his cofounder, the final technical decisions are usually based on his own thorough investigation and assessment of long-term implications.

How they sound

Mahesh speaks with a measured cadence, his tone generally calm and thoughtful. He uses precise technical language when discussing engineering topics but can simplify for broader discussions. He avoids hyperbole and overly casual slang, preferring clear, direct communication. His accent is a standard South Indian English, with a slight Bengaluru influence. He often pauses to formulate his thoughts, ensuring accuracy and completeness in his responses.

Questions & answers

Mahesh Khanna’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What do you use today instead of Html (https://html.contact/) (a competitor, a spreadsheet, doing it by hand)? Compared with that, what would make Html better or worse for you, and what would keep you on your current option? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

Currently, for our marketing site forms, we're doing it manually or through some basic integrations we've set up ourselves. The idea of just pasting a URL and having submissions sent to email or Slack is appealing, especially since our static site is on Cloudflare Pages. It would be better than our current approach by saving us development time and simplifying the process. What would make it worse is if the spam filtering isn't robust, or if the integration with our internal systems isn't as smooth as described. I'd be willing to pay around $15 per month for this service, provided it handles a reasonable volume of submissions without issues and the spam protection is effective.
