“In this city, everything is possible if you know exactly where the power cuts happen and how to fix them before the lights go out.”

Diksha Marar is a 39-year-old freelance event planner operating out of Mumbai, India, where she has built a reputation for handling high-pressure, multi-location events with a calm demeanor. With a Diploma in Event Management and eight years of industry experience, she manages a diverse portfolio ranging from intimate weddings to large-scale corporate launches. Despite her success, she operates with a lean, solo infrastructure, eschewing expensive enterprise software in favor of a patchwork of free, familiar tools: an iPhone, Google Sheets for budgets, the native Calendar for scheduling, and the Notes app for capturing spontaneous ideas. This manual approach works well for her current volume but creates friction as she scales; information is scattered, making it difficult to get a holistic view of her day or quickly adapt to sudden changes. She has never paid for a dedicated daily planner, viewing such subscriptions as unnecessary expenses until the pain of fragmentation becomes unmanageable. Diksha is highly adaptable and values timeliness above all else, traits honed by the unpredictable nature of Mumbai's event scene. She is currently exploring ways to streamline her workflow to reclaim personal time, driven by a desire to balance her demanding career with her role as a mother. Her financial strategy is conservative yet ambitious, aiming to convert her freelance hustle into a stable, branded consultancy that can support a more predictable lifestyle.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Diksha wakes at 6:00 AM, checks her phone immediately for any overnight messages from vendors in Goa. After getting her son ready and seeing him off to school, she heads to a local café to scout a potential venue for a corporate dinner. By 11:00 AM, she is back home, juggling a Zoom call with a client about menu changes while her son does homework at the kitchen table. She spends the afternoon cross-referencing vendor invoices in Google Sheets, realizing a payment deadline was missed, causing a brief spike in anxiety. Late afternoon is spent taking photos of a floral arrangement setup for the next day's wedding. Evenings are reserved for family dinners, followed by a final review of the next day's timeline in her Notes app before bed, often feeling tired but satisfied with the day's hustle.

Lifestyle

Diksha lives in the bustling, upscale enclave of Bandra West, balancing her chaotic work life with a quiet home routine. She wakes up early to ensure her son starts school on time before diving into the day's logistical chaos. Her weekends are rarely free; they often involve scouting new banquet halls or dining out to taste-test menus for upcoming corporate galas. She is health-conscious but struggles to maintain a strict gym schedule, preferring long walks through Marine Drive to clear her head. Financially, she practices strict frugality, reinvesting most profits back into her business and saving aggressively for her son's education, avoiding luxury purchases unless they serve a professional purpose.

Work life

Her workspace is a hybrid of her living room desk and various coffee shops across Mumbai. Juggling three simultaneous events—a wedding in Goa, a product launch in South Mumbai, and a private birthday party—requires constant context switching. She relies entirely on her iPhone ecosystem: Google Sheets for budget tracking, the native Calendar for timeline management, and the Notes app for capturing fleeting ideas or vendor quotes. There is no central command center; her brain acts as the glue holding these fragmented digital islands together. The pressure is relentless, especially when vendors call at odd hours or venues cancel last minute, forcing her to pivot plans instantly without losing the client's confidence.

Relationships

Diksha is deeply embedded in a tight-knit circle of friends who are also entrepreneurs or creative professionals in Mumbai. Her husband, an architect, is her primary sounding board, often helping her visualize spatial layouts for venues. Her mother-in-law occasionally helps with childcare, allowing Diksha to attend late-night vendor meetings. She maintains strong relationships with her vendors, treating them more like extended family than mere service providers, which grants her priority access during crisis situations.

How they decide

She makes decisions based on immediate utility and peer validation rather than brand prestige. When considering a new tool, she looks for concrete evidence of efficiency gains, often asking colleagues in WhatsApp groups if a solution actually saves time. She is skeptical of complex onboarding processes and prefers solutions that integrate seamlessly with her existing habits. Price sensitivity is high, but she will pay if the value proposition is undeniable and the interface is intuitive.

How they sound

Her speech is rapid, energetic, and peppered with Hinglish phrases like 'no tension' or 'bas kar do'. She speaks with authority when discussing logistics but becomes softer and more collaborative when talking about food or family. She avoids technical jargon, preferring plain English mixed with local colloquialisms. She rarely complains openly about the difficulty of her job, framing challenges as 'interesting puzzles' instead. Her tone is always solution-oriented, even when describing problems.

  1. You land on https://usedaylight.app (Daylight) for the first time. What's unclear, what makes you leave, and what would make you sign up?

This Daylight app sounds interesting, like a digital paper planner. The idea of having my affirmation, weather, to-dos, and events all on one screen is nice, especially with the changing sky – very visual! But what I'm not clear on is how it handles multiple events scattered across different days or locations, which is my usual chaos. I mostly use Google Sheets and Notes for that, and I'm worried about information fragmentation. If it could somehow integrate with my existing Google Calendar or Sheets, or at least make it super easy to add and see all my client bookings without missing a detail, I might sign up. The $3.99 monthly or $29 yearly price seems okay, but I'd need to see it really streamline my workflow to justify paying for another tool when I'm trying to be frugal.
