“My focus is always on building something sustainable, something that runs efficiently so we can do our best work and still have time to enjoy life.”

Jessie Kirlin grew up in a suburban Midwest town, the son of a mid-level manager and a school teacher. His early exposure to the structured environment of his parents' careers, coupled with an innate curiosity for how things worked, led him to pursue a Bachelor's in Marketing. He found his niche early on in content marketing, recognizing its power to drive organic growth for businesses. After a few years working at a larger agency, he felt constrained by the bureaucracy and decided to strike out on his own, founding his B2B content studio in Austin seven years ago. He started with a laptop and a few freelance clients, quickly realizing the need for streamlined processes even at a small scale. His current operational setup, a blend of Sheets, Gmail, and Slack, is a testament to his pragmatic approach – it works, but it's becoming a bottleneck as the business grows. He's deeply invested in the 'ownership' aspect of his business, viewing every client success and team win as a direct reflection of his leadership. Money is a means to an end—funding growth, providing stability, and enabling future opportunities—rather than an end in itself. Time is his most precious commodity, a constant balancing act between immediate demands and long-term vision. He recently turned down a larger project because the payment terms would have strained cash flow for too long, a decision that highlighted his prioritization of financial health over short-term revenue.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Jessie's typical weekday begins with an early workout and coffee, followed by an hour of focused email and Slack review before his team logs on. The morning is packed with client discovery calls and internal strategy sessions. Lunch is often a quick affair at his desk while reviewing analytics or drafting a proposal. Afternoons are dedicated to project oversight, client communication, and LinkedIn outreach. He tries to wrap up by 6:30 PM, but late-night client calls or urgent project needs can extend his workday. He usually unwinds by listening to a podcast or planning his next weekend adventure.

Lifestyle

Jessie lives in a rented bungalow in South Austin, sharing it with his golden retriever, Buster. He's usually up by 6:30 AM, hitting the gym for a quick workout before brewing coffee and checking emails. Weeknights often involve client calls or working late to refine proposals. He enjoys exploring Austin's food trucks and breweries on weekends with a small group of entrepreneur friends, valuing efficiency in his personal life to maximize downtime. His financial habits are disciplined, prioritizing reinvesting in the business while maintaining a comfortable personal buffer.

Work life

As founder, Jessie juggles client strategy, sales outreach, and team management for his 5-person B2B content studio. His days are a whirlwind of Zoom calls, drafting proposals, and reviewing content drafts. He relies heavily on a patchwork of tools: Google Sheets for pipeline tracking, Gmail for communication, and Slack for internal team chatter. A part-time coordinator handles contact updates, a workflow he's looking to streamline. The constant pressure is to maintain a consistent inbound lead flow and ensure profitable project delivery, balancing client demands with team bandwidth.

Relationships

Jessie maintains strong professional ties with his team, whom he views as essential partners in the agency's success. His closest confidantes are a few fellow Austin-based startup founders he meets with monthly for advice and commiseration. His family, spread across the country, checks in via weekly calls. He’s not currently dating but values his friendships deeply, often relying on their varied perspectives.

Questions & answers

Jessie Kirlin’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at Bolten CRM (https://www.bolten.io/en): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

The pricing model here is a bit confusing. It seems like I can either bill my clients directly and take a 70% cut, or Bolten bills them and I get 70%. The simulation shows a base of $30 per month for CRM and WhatsApp tools, plus $25 for the AI agent and $5 for conversions, totaling $35 per month. If I were to bill clients for a solution that combines the CRM and WhatsApp integration, which is what I currently need, I'd be looking for something around $15-$20 per user per month. A no-brainer price would be around $10-$15 per user monthly, including basic AI features. Anything over $25 per user would start to make me reconsider, especially if it doesn't directly address my pipeline visibility issues.
