“The real challenge isn't just building it, it's building it *right* and *fast* enough to keep moving forward.”

Deepan Marar, 27, is a seasoned freelance web developer based in the vibrant tech hub of Bengaluru. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, he has spent the last five years carving out a niche for himself, primarily focusing on front-end development for startups and small businesses. His market fit is defined by his ability to efficiently deliver functional and aesthetically pleasing web solutions, often building landing pages, waitlist sign-ups, and streamlined e-commerce front-ends. He leverages Tailwind CSS extensively, a choice driven by its utility-first approach and the speed it allows him to develop. Deepan's workflow is highly optimized; he frequently reuses and adapts code from previous projects, maintaining a personal repository of reusable components and snippets. This pragmatic approach allows him to juggle two to three client projects concurrently, a necessity given the often unpredictable nature of freelance income. His income of ₹24 lakh per year reflects his expertise and consistent demand, but also the significant effort required to maintain this level. He lives alone in a rented 1BHK apartment, where his workspace is his sanctuary, equipped with dual monitors and a comfortable setup. Deepan's recent decisions have centered on refining his development process, investing time in learning advanced React patterns and exploring new UI kits that can further accelerate his delivery times. He recently turned down a project that involved a significant amount of custom animation work, deeming it too time-consuming for the offered budget and opting instead to focus on a more straightforward e-commerce build for a client he'd worked with successfully before. This decision highlights his commitment to profitability and manageable workload, prioritizing projects that align with his strengths and efficient development style. He values independence above all, relishing the control he has over his schedule and project selection, though this comes with the inherent pressure of self-management and the constant need to secure new clients. His financial habits are disciplined, with a significant portion of his earnings being saved for future investments and to provide a buffer against lean periods, reinforcing his desire for long-term stability within his chosen freelance career.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Deepan's weekday typically begins around 8 AM with a quick check of emails and project management tools. After a light breakfast, he dives into his primary client project, often focusing on front-end implementation using Tailwind CSS and React components. He takes short breaks for stretching or a quick walk around his apartment complex. Lunch is usually a simple, home-prepared meal. The afternoon might involve a client call, code reviews, or switching to a secondary project. Evenings are reserved for personal learning, perhaps exploring a new UI kit or watching a tutorial, followed by dinner and winding down by reading tech articles or a novel before bed around 11 PM.

Lifestyle

Deepan lives a focused, somewhat solitary life in Bengaluru, prioritizing his work and professional growth. His rented 1BHK apartment is functional, with a dedicated workspace dominated by his dual monitors and ergonomic chair. He's conscious about his health, trying to fit in a quick jog or gym session a few times a week, and prefers home-cooked meals to save money and eat healthier. Social life revolves around occasional meetups with fellow freelancers or former college friends, often discussing tech trends or project challenges. He's financially disciplined, saving a significant portion of his income for future investments and to maintain his independence.

Work life

Deepan thrives on the autonomy of freelancing, managing his time to balance 2-3 client projects simultaneously. His typical workday involves deep focus sessions, coding in Tailwind CSS, and integrating pre-built components from his extensive snippet library. He often starts new projects by adapting code from previous successful builds, prioritizing speed and efficiency. The pressure comes from tight deadlines and the need to constantly acquire new skills to stay competitive. He collaborates remotely with clients, often through Slack and Zoom, and occasionally with other freelance designers or backend developers.

Relationships

Deepan maintains a close but geographically dispersed circle of friends from university, with whom he shares technical insights and life updates. His parents, back in his hometown, are proud of his success but occasionally express concern about the instability of freelance work. He has a few trusted freelance collaborators he calls upon for specialized tasks, valuing their reliability and skill.

How they decide

Deepan is a pragmatic decision-maker, heavily influenced by efficiency and proven solutions. He researches thoroughly when encountering new challenges, often consulting documentation, developer forums, and trusted blogs. He prefers tools and methods that demonstrably save time or improve project outcomes, weighing the initial effort against long-term benefits. While he values peer recommendations, the ultimate decision rests on his own analysis of practicality and effectiveness.

How they sound

Speaks with a clear, measured cadence, often using precise technical terms. His English is fluent with a subtle South Indian accent. He tends to be direct and avoids overly casual slang in professional contexts, but can be more relaxed with peers. He's articulate and explains concepts logically, often pausing to ensure understanding. He avoids hyperbole and focuses on factual descriptions.

Questions & answers

Deepan Marar’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at Blendful » Home (https://blendful.com): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

The page shows a variety of Tailwind CSS templates, and while they look good, the pricing isn't clear at all. I'd expect to see different tiers or perhaps a per-template cost. For a no-brainer price, maybe around $15-$20 per month for full access to all templates, assuming they're well-coded and easy to customize. Anything over $40 per month would be too steep for my freelance budget, especially since I often build from existing code. I'm unsure about the actual pricing structure, so I can't give a precise maximum, but I wouldn't pay more than $25 USD per month.
