“Every minute saved is a minute we can invest back into building something truly valuable.”

Diptendu Verma, 35, is a co-founder and the Operations Lead for a burgeoning SaaS startup based in Bengaluru. Holding a BE in Information Technology from RV College of Engineering, he initially worked as a software engineer for a few years before the entrepreneurial itch became too strong to ignore. He co-founded his current venture four years ago with a vision to streamline a specific business process through software. His income of ₹48L reflects the early success and demanding nature of his role. Diptendu is married and lives in a rented apartment, prioritizing reinvestment in the business over immediate personal luxuries. His approach to life and work is deeply rooted in efficiency and ownership; he believes in meticulously managing resources, both time and capital. He’s a firm believer in 'cash discipline,' understanding that every rupee spent must contribute directly to growth or operational stability. This mindset permeates his daily work, where he constantly seeks ways to optimize workflows and reduce overhead. His technical background allows him to deeply understand the product and its operational needs, while his operational focus ensures the business runs like a well-oiled machine. He recently made a critical decision to delay a planned marketing campaign by two weeks to allocate those funds towards upgrading their customer support infrastructure, a move driven by a recent surge in user feedback highlighting support response times. This prioritization reflects his core values: ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining financial prudence. He spends his evenings reviewing performance metrics and planning the next day's priorities, often finding it hard to fully switch off from the demands of running a startup. His ambition is clear: to build a scalable, profitable business that offers genuine value to its customers, all while maintaining a lean and agile operational structure.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Diptendu's day begins around 7:00 AM with a quick check of urgent emails and overnight support tickets. After a strong cup of masala chai and a brief chat with Priya, he's at his desk by 8:30 AM. The morning is a blur of customer calls, responding to support queries, and reviewing financial dashboards. Lunch is usually a quick affair, often eaten at his desk while scanning industry news. The afternoon involves team syncs, refining operational processes, and planning for the next sprint. He tries to wrap up by 7:00 PM, but late-night client requests or urgent issues can easily extend this. Evenings are for decompressing, though his mind often drifts back to work challenges.

Lifestyle

Diptendu lives in a rented 2BHK apartment in Koramangala with his wife, who works in marketing. Their evenings are often spent discussing work, planning meals, or catching up on shows. He’s conscious about his health, trying to fit in a brisk walk or a quick gym session a few times a week, though work often intrudes. Financial discipline is key; he meticulously tracks personal expenses and prioritizes saving for future business expansion and potential property investment. Weekends are a mix of catching up with friends over chai, family visits, and diving deep into industry news or a good book.

Work life

As Co-founder and Operations Lead for a 5-person SaaS startup, Diptendu's days are a relentless juggle. He's the central hub, managing everything from customer onboarding and support to financial projections and team coordination. His 14-inch MacBook Pro, augmented by an external display, is his command center. He navigates a constant stream of emails, complex spreadsheets for forecasting, detailed support documentation, and back-to-back video calls. The pressure is immense to keep the wheels turning smoothly, ensure customer happiness, and maintain lean operations, all while wearing multiple hats.

Relationships

Diptendu is married to Priya, a supportive partner who understands the demands of startup life. His co-founder, Rohan, handles product development, and their relationship is built on mutual respect and shared vision, though they occasionally clash on priorities. He maintains a close circle of college friends who are also in tech or entrepreneurship, often seeking their advice and sharing war stories.

How they decide

Diptendu is a pragmatic decision-maker. He weighs options carefully, leaning heavily on data and logical analysis. While he values speed and efficiency, he won't rush into choices without understanding the potential impact. He often seeks input from his co-founder and trusted peers but ultimately trusts his own judgment based on thorough research and a clear understanding of the business's financial and operational realities.

How they sound

Speaks with a clear, measured cadence, often using precise language. His English is fluent with a subtle South Indian accent. He avoids overly casual slang but isn't afraid of technical jargon when appropriate. Tends to be direct and to the point, especially in professional contexts, but can be warm and engaging in informal settings. He often uses phrases like 'essentially,' 'the crux of the matter is,' and 'we need to be mindful of.'

Questions & answers

Diptendu Verma’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What do you use today instead of Bayview (https://www.bayview.app) (a competitor, a spreadsheet, doing it by hand)? Compared with that, what would make Bayview better or worse for you, and what would keep you on your current option? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

Right now, for window management, I primarily use macOS split view and browser tabs. It's a bit of a manual process, juggling different applications across my dual displays. To be honest, the built-in macOS tiling is quite limited. Bayview sounds intriguing because it offers more granular control with the grid system and keyboard shortcuts, especially for moving windows between displays. The one-time $9.99 price is very reasonable, especially since it includes lifetime updates. I'd definitely consider it, though I'd want to test the 6-hour trial thoroughly to see if it genuinely streamlines my workflow. The main thing that would keep me on my current setup is if Bayview introduced any friction or complexity that negates the time savings. But for $9.99, it's hard to argue against trying.
