“The quiet hum of a stable system is the sound of progress; if it’s loud, something’s usually wrong.”

Lieve Hermans has been the linchpin of IT operations at 'Studio Bloom,' a prominent Amsterdam design agency, for the past seven years. Her journey into IT management wasn't a straight line; she initially pursued information management with a focus on organizational efficiency, a passion that still drives her today. After a few years in a more junior IT support role, she recognized the growing need for dedicated, structured IT oversight within creative industries. Her Bachelor's degree provided the foundational knowledge, but her innate conscientiousness and meticulous approach quickly propelled her into her current management position. She lives alone in a comfortable, well-organized apartment, her life outside of work characterized by routine and a preference for quiet efficiency. Her cat, Boris, is her primary companion. Lieve is not driven by status or outward displays of success; her satisfaction comes from building and maintaining robust, reliable systems that allow others to be creative. Her income, within the typical range for her role and location, allows for a comfortable life, with a strong emphasis on practical savings and sensible financial planning rather than extravagant spending. She sees technology not as an end in itself, but as a tool to enable productivity and security, and her primary focus is ensuring that tool is dependable and safe. Her recent decision to meticulously document every app permission review, while time-consuming, stems from a proactive effort to mitigate potential risks identified in a minor data incident last year involving a third-party plugin. This incident underscored the critical importance of granular oversight, especially with the growing use of mobile devices by the agency's account managers and creative directors.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Lieve's day begins with a strong coffee and a quick check of overnight system alerts. After cycling to the office, she tackles her inbox, prioritizing urgent user support tickets from the creative and account management teams. Mid-morning often involves reviewing new app requests, cross-referencing permissions against the agency’s policy, and diligently updating her master spreadsheet – a task she finds tedious but essential. Lunch is a quick, healthy meal at her desk while perusing tech news. The afternoon might include a vendor call, updating server documentation, or assisting a designer with a software integration issue. Before leaving, she does a final sweep of urgent requests and ensures critical systems are stable.

Lifestyle

Lieve lives in a well-organized, two-bedroom apartment in a quiet Amsterdam neighborhood, a short bike ride from her office. Her evenings are typically spent reading industry blogs, tending to her small collection of houseplants, or enjoying a quiet dinner. She values her personal time for recharging and occasionally meets up with a small circle of friends for dinner or a movie, preferring low-key social activities. Financial discipline is key; she manages her budget carefully, prioritizing savings for future security and occasional travel. She cycles everywhere, a habit that keeps her active and grounded.

Work life

As the sole IT manager for a fast-paced design agency, Lieve is constantly juggling support requests, infrastructure maintenance, and strategic planning. Her days are a mix of troubleshooting user issues, overseeing software licenses, and diligently documenting every IT decision, especially regarding mobile app security. She works closely with the operations team, who rely on her detailed spreadsheets for auditing. The creative directors, while brilliant in their field, often present unique tech challenges that require patient explanation and tailored solutions. She feels the pressure to keep systems running seamlessly so the creative output isn't interrupted.

Relationships

Lieve is close to her sister and her sister's family, with whom she has Sunday dinners occasionally. Her friendships are long-standing and built on mutual respect and shared interests, though she sees them less frequently than she’d like. Her cat, Boris, is her primary companion at home. Within the office, she maintains a professional but approachable relationship with most colleagues, earning respect for her competence and calm demeanor.

How they decide

Lieve is a highly cautious and methodical decision-maker. She prioritizes thorough research, comparing options based on documented evidence and reliability. She often consults internal policies and best practices before making any significant IT choices, preferring solutions that offer clear benefits and minimal disruption. She is not easily swayed by hype and values proven effectiveness and long-term stability over flashy features.

How they sound

Speaks clearly and precisely, with a calm, measured cadence. Her Dutch accent is subtle but present. She avoids jargon when speaking to non-technical staff, preferring clear analogies. She uses phrases like 'Let me check that for you,' 'According to policy,' and 'We need to ensure compliance.' She is not prone to hyperbole or casual slang, favoring direct and factual communication.

Questions & answers

Lieve Hermans’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. Looking at AppXpose (https://appxpose.app/): what price would make it a no-brainer for you, and at what price would you stop considering it? What would you expect to get for that money? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

The free tier with 5 scans per week seems like a good starting point to test its capabilities for our agency. If it can reliably identify problematic trackers and permissions, I'd consider the 'GUARD' plan. For an IT Manager at a design agency, a price of around $5 to $8 USD per month for unlimited scans and background alerts would be a no-brainer. Anything above $10 USD per month would require more justification, and certainly more than $15 USD would make me stop considering it. The lifetime option for €99.99 is interesting, but I'd need to see how it integrates with our workflow and the volume of data it provides.
