Timothy Gottlieb-Doyle, 33, is the founder and managing director of a thriving digital marketing agency based in Leeds, UK. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing, he established the agency five years ago with a vision to provide bespoke digital solutions for small to medium-sized businesses. He currently leads a team of six, fostering a culture of collaboration and results. His agency's operational backbone relies on a functional, albeit sometimes strained, VoIP system for inbound calls, which are routed to a rotating mobile phone among team members. Lead capture is managed through HubSpot, with initial client communications often funneling into a shared inbox, a system that Timothy acknowledges has room for improvement. He's a firm believer in measured growth, prioritizing client trust and long-term relationships over aggressive expansion. This philosophy guides his decisions, from team hiring to technology adoption. Timothy is financially prudent, earning a respectable £64k annually, which allows for a comfortable lifestyle with his partner, Rachel, in their city-center flat. He's not driven by ostentatious displays of wealth but by the satisfaction of building a successful, reputable business. His recent focus has been on refining internal processes to ensure client inquiries are handled promptly and efficiently, even as the agency scales. He's actively researching ways to improve call handling and lead management without disrupting the existing workflow or incurring excessive costs, reflecting his cautious yet forward-thinking approach to business operations. He understands the importance of staying ahead in the digital landscape and dedicates time to reading industry publications and attending relevant webinars, ensuring both he and his team remain at the forefront of marketing innovation.

Background & daily life

A day in their life

Timothy's day typically starts around 7:30 AM with a quick check of urgent emails and Slack messages before his morning run. By 9:00 AM, he's at the office, usually grabbing a coffee from the local cafe. The first hour is spent reviewing the previous day's performance metrics and planning the day's priorities with his team. Mornings are often filled with client calls, strategy sessions, and team check-ins. Lunch is usually a quick affair, sometimes a walk to a nearby sandwich shop. Afternoons might involve new business pitches, reviewing campaign reports, or working on agency development. He tries to wrap up by 6:00 PM, though urgent client needs can extend this. Evenings are for downtime with Rachel, though he might occasionally catch up on industry news before bed.

Lifestyle

Timothy lives in a vibrant neighborhood in Leeds, within walking distance to his agency's office. He and his partner, Rachel, enjoy trying new restaurants and breweries on weekends. He's an avid reader of industry blogs and listens to podcasts on entrepreneurship during his daily commute. Timothy prioritizes regular exercise, making time for a morning run or a lunchtime gym session. He's somewhat of a tech enthusiast, always on the lookout for tools to streamline his work and personal life, but is mindful of unnecessary expenses, preferring to invest in solutions that demonstrably improve efficiency or client outcomes.

Work life

As the founder and managing director of a 6-person digital marketing agency, Timothy's days are a constant juggle. He oversees client strategy, manages the team, and handles business development. His agency relies on a VoIP system for incoming calls, which are then forwarded to whichever team member is designated to take them that day – a system that's functional but occasionally leads to missed opportunities or delays. Leads are meticulously tracked in HubSpot, but client inquiries and initial contact often land in a shared inbox, requiring constant monitoring. The team is lean, and while they're adept at marketing tech, they haven't yet invested in dedicated receptionist automation, meaning urgent calls can sometimes get lost in the shuffle during busy periods.

Relationships

Timothy is in a stable, long-term relationship with Rachel, who understands the demands of running a business. His core team of six are a close-knit group, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. He values the opinions of a few trusted entrepreneur peers in Leeds, often meeting for coffee or a pint to discuss challenges and strategies.

How they decide

Timothy is a pragmatic decision-maker. He researches options thoroughly, weighing pros and cons, and often seeks input from his team or trusted peers. He's not impulsive but will act decisively when he sees a clear path to improvement or efficiency, especially if it aligns with his values of measured growth and client trust. He's budget-conscious but willing to invest if the return on investment is evident.

How they sound

Speaks with a clear, slightly formal British accent, typical of Yorkshire. His cadence is measured, reflecting his thoughtful approach. He uses professional language but isn't afraid of occasional industry jargon. He tends to avoid overly casual slang or overly effusive praise, preferring direct and honest communication. He's articulate and can explain complex concepts concisely.

Questions & answers

Timothy Gottlieb-Doyle’s public research answers, newest questions first. Up to 10 per page.

  1. What do you use today instead of AgentZap (https://agentzap.ai/) (a competitor, a spreadsheet, doing it by hand)? Compared with that, what would make AgentZap better or worse for you, and what would keep you on your current option? Also say the maximum you would pay per month in USD (0 if nothing).

At the moment, we're managing inbound calls through a VoIP system that routes to a rotating mobile. Leads are logged in HubSpot, and initial contact often goes into a shared inbox. AgentZap's ability to answer every call 24/7 and book appointments directly is certainly appealing, especially for capturing leads that might otherwise be missed. The idea of automating initial inquiries and reducing the time senior staff spend on repetitive tasks is a significant benefit. However, I'd need to understand how well it integrates with our current HubSpot setup and if the AI can truly handle the nuanced inquiries our clients have without sounding too robotic. My primary concern would be maintaining that personal touch that clients value, even with automation. Given our current setup, the biggest advantage would be not missing calls, especially outside of business hours. I could see paying around $150 per month for a solution like this, provided it seamlessly integrates and proves its value.
